CAREER OBJECTIVE

I aim to develop myself as a professional filmmaker and media arts specialist. I continue to do so through the development of technical skills in video engineering and personal skills in production management. I work to excel as a producer, director, and editor and do so by being open to learn, listen, communicate, manage, and assess technical issues, artistic needs, and social dynamics.

 

RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE

FIELD PRODUCER Michael Hoff Productions & Animal Planet San Francisco, Ca (July, 2008 – Present)

Produced a 26 episode series for Animal Planet called, The Weird, True, and Freaky. Researched and contacted interviewee candidates that were appropriate for the show. Scheduled and organized shoots, traveled to location, hired crew, maintained releases and insurance, conducted interviews, collaborated with editors and engineers on shoot specifications and lighting needs (1080i, HDV/HD, 16:9, etc.), and communicated transcript highlights to writers and series producer.

PRODUCER/EDITOR/OWNER BTV Productions, San Francisco, CA (Oct, 2007 – April, 2008)

Create/Direct/Produce non-fiction documentaries and corporate productions. Recruit clients, establish shoot outline/storyboard, and locations for shooting.  Shot, wrote and edited the Castles for Classes a project designed for Leap Arts Foundation in San Francisco that assist in raising a 20% increase in annual funds.  Distribute video content for web safe broadcast on professional and corprate based websites.

 

ASSOCIATE PRODUCER Michael Hoff Productions, Emeryville, Ca  (Sept, 2006 – April 2007)

Produced a documentary for National Geographic Channel on the Daredevils of Niagara Falls.  Researched and gathered factual information for shoot outline.  Acquired archival footage for edit, negotiated usage rates and finalized legal terms for distribution.  Located show talent, coordinated interviews, and scouted/cleared shoot locations.  Managed appropriate legal releases for footage and maintained show expense budget.  Wrote Ôsnap-outsÕ, and gathered selects to support voice-overs.  Annotated the script to meet National Geographic Channel standards.  Assisted editor in logging and highlighting best footage, and music for edit.  Volunteer time to collaboration with development department for researching and writing proposals, one-pages, and blurbs for new shows.

 

PRODUCTION COORDINATOR H.S.I. Productions, Los Angeles, Ca (Feb, 1999 – Aug, 2002)

Maintained a database of freelance and rental contractors for production needs.  Responsible for building call sheets and developing shoot schedules (for lighting, grips, kraft food services etc.).  Assisted in researching locations, and relaying information gathered in production meetings.  Booked travel, maintained producers schedule, and worked as an on-set mediator between client and producer.  Worked with a variety of clients such as Ivory with Brooke Shields, K-mart with Wynona Judd, and the Willennium CD with Will Smith.

 

DIGITAL VIDEO ENGINEER Video Hawks, Los Angeles, Ca (Feb, 1999 – Aug, 2002)

Digitally capture and replayed footage on location for director/producer/client.  Technical skills include: Operating mixer boards for green screen and dissolve shots.  Running beta, mini-DV and HD video decks.  Setting up of monitors, running B&C, RCA, and various audio and video cable engineering. Working with production team to check of completed shot list and from storyboard for on set editing.

 

CURRENT PROJECTS

 

PRODUCER Global Sports Project, Long Beach Ca

Shooter/Producer/Editor of a self-written human-interest documentary on the exploration of the Pacific coast via sail.  Developed initial proposal and treatment, recruited experienced producer/distributor, traveled and shot over 100 hours of footage (on HVD1080i), wrote script and currently in rough cut (view the trailer at: REACHING REALITY).

 

WEB EXPERIENCE

Designed layout, theme, and embedded current video projects with Dreamweaver software for promotion of documentary work and project updates.

 

LINKS/REEL AND RECENT PROJECTS

 

CASTLES FOR CLASSES: A promotional documentary for Leap Arts Foundation designed to help raise awareness and funding for arts in elementary education throughout San Francisco.  Previewed in the Bentley Reserve in front of a crowd of 200 at LeapÕs annual mid-year fundraiser.

 

HURT: A documentary about a grueling 100-mile race through the jungles of Hawaii.   This is a rare view into a race where few start and even fewer finish.
